A leading company in Cape Town is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join their employee benefits team. This role is critical in managing accurate payroll processing and compliance with South African payroll regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, be analytically minded, and possess leadership experience. You'll oversee the full payroll function while contributing to process improvements within the team.
Our client based in Cape Town are currently seeking the skills of a Payroll Accountant to support the employee benefits team with end to end processing and financial accuracy. Our client is looking for someone with a strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and practices who has strong analytical skills and is able to work in a fast paced environment
Main job function
Manage the payroll process, including managing the general ledger verifying payroll data, and ensuring accurate and timely payment of employees.
• Ensure compliance with legislation related to payroll, including tax, benefits, and payroll deductions.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare reports for management and statutory bodies.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with the Employee Benefits Department to ensure accurate employee data and maintain employee payroll records.
• Provide support for audits related to payroll and benefits.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.
• Assist with other accounting and finance functions as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Criteria
Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience, including:
• At least 3 years in accounting, with a focus of payroll and accounts payable.
• 2 years’ experience leading a team.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll systems, accounting principles and payroll regulations.
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and practices, as well as in-depth knowledge of South African payroll and tax laws.
• Proficient in payroll software and systems, such as Oracle.
• Knowledge of legislation as it pertains to Payroll.
• Proficient in payroll software and Microsoft Office (Excel expertise).
• Experience preparing detailed reports.
• Supervise, mentor and develop a team in order to ensure high performance.
• Maintaining dividend statements.
• Budget and forecasting various countries
