Accountant Job Description

As the Accountant, you will oversee payroll and bookkeeping tasks, ensuring precision, promptness, and adherence to regulations.

Responsibilities include managing payroll systems, updating records, and liaising with third-party providers.

The role also involves handling HR agreements, financial statements, and collaborating with the HR, CFO, and Group Finance teams to enhance overall financial operations and foster professional growth.

Success will be gauged by accurate payroll processing, regulatory compliance, effective HR and financial management, and productive collaboration with stakeholders.

Key qualifications and experience for the Payroll Accountant:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance / Accounting
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Proven track record in bookkeeping and accounting
  • Understanding of SA Tax
  • Sage payroll system experience (advantageous)
  • Payroll certification (advantageous)
  • HR / Payroll experience (advantageous)
  • High integrity and professional maturity
Key duties include but are not limited to:
  • Oversee payroll processing, including salaries, benefits, taxes, and deductions, ensuring compliance and meeting deadlines.
  • Manage records and reports documenting all transactions.
  • Maintain accurate employee data and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated on payroll laws and regulations across jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with third-party providers for compliance and consistency.
  • Develop budgets and forecasts related to payroll.
  • Track leave balances and process leave requests.
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve payroll issues.
  • Manage staff incentive schemes and related financial records.
  • Prepare management accounts and financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Prepare and file income tax returns accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Manage investments, including monthly accounts and investor reporting.
