Job description

Duties & Responsibilities

Direct and coordinates activities concerned with pasta line processing. Consults with management to establish production and quality control standards. Plans and directs pasta line activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Plans and coordinates production activities at pasta line to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.

General Task

Key Task and Responsibilities:

Responsible for Supervising Pasta line Team.

Firmness and hands-on management approach will be to your best advantage.

Work closely with Production and Operations Manager to ensure smooth operation of the pasta line department.

Being part of planning and tracking of pasta line equipment maintenance for daily, weekly, monthly maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedule.

Drive production strategy to develop and implement maintenance and preventative plans.

Contribute and/or take the lead with improvement & upgrade projects in your area of responsibility.

Ensure a high standard of housekeeping.

Follow up on breakdowns and ensure maintenance does detailed Root cause analysis for all pasta line machines.

Maximize uptime and operational effectiveness of all machinery.

Administration Function - time sheets, reports, correspondence.

Identify and liaise with the engineering department for technical support to optimize the process.

Ensure correct spares are in stock for pasta line equipment

Ensure equipment lubrication is on track

Waste reduction strategies

Responsible to drive a culture of adherence to Health and Safety standards.

Ensure GMP's are adhered to.

Participate and support Company's food safety and quality objectives.

Report all problems with the Food Safety to the QA Manager who will initiate and records actions.

Shopware management

  • Production Management

Ensure Company O.E.E standards are achieved and O.E.E software is maintained.

Manage production activities in a high-pressured environment.

Ensure smooth operation of various activities at pasta line.

Plan and coordinate pasta line shift activities to meet overall production and Company objectives.

Ensure production plan is met as per requirements with the required yield.

Lead, control and conduct training for the pasta line team.

Motivate and monitor team to achieve their operational targets.

Responsible for the care of assets.

Ensure preventative maintenance is conducted properly and in line with schedule

Ensure equipment failure is communicated timeously and followed up on.

Maintain operating expenses to be in line with budget including labour, consumables and other items within specified control.

Ensure infrastructure and equipment are taken care of and action is taken where there are none conformances noted.

  • People Management

Provide leadership to the team, defining objectives to be achieved by the department.

Deploy people management processes - workforce planning, recruitment and selection, learning and development, performance management and employee relations etc. effectively, in line with organisational policies, procedures and prevailing improvement initiatives.

Manage the working environment and ensure it contributes to improving staff morale and increasing productivity.

  • Financial Management

Manage and strive to eliminate internal rejections and waste

Ensure production variances are under control and within recovery as per the budget, correct where there are high losses.

Continuously strive to save costs.

  • Health and Safety/Governance and Compliance

Adhere to and meet all relevant safety targets and measurements within the area of responsibility.

  • Quality

Ensure alignment of all work processes to the required quality standards.

Proactively identify continual improvement strategies.

Action agreed quality initiatives ensuring that they are aligned to tasks/ processes/ systems.

Implement corrective actions identified within specified time.

Ensure compliance with product quality standards.

Ensure hygiene and housekeeping is maintained at required levels for readiness of any food hygiene/ safety audit.

  • Administration

Compile and deliver reports timeously, as required by the business.

Report on production variances and efficiencies.

Develop and submit processing reports required by the operations team.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric.
  • N6/National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 7 years' industry experience of which at least 3 years are in a supervisory role.
  • Must have a trade qualification, preferably Millwright.
  • Must have worked in a food production environment or similar.
  • Experience with automated machinery, e.g. PLC's, HMI's, drives, automated packing machines.
  • Electrical problem-solving experience.
  • Must have production process experience.
  • In depth understanding of preventive maintenance philosophy.
  • Knowledge of Shopware maintenance module would be an advantage.
  • Administrative Skills.
  • Knowledge of FSSC 22000 principles.
  • MS Office.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and Public Holidays.
