Part-time (4/8ths) Medical Technologist (Post Level 9)

Duties/Pligte
- Liaising with laboratories in Africa (Kenya, Ghana, Uganda) who will ship isolates to Stellenbosch University (SU).
- Reconciling shipping logs with received isolates.
- Assessing purity and viability of isolates, and identifying isolates using MS and/or PCR.
- Performing susceptibility testing of isolates using broth microdilution, agar dilution and gradient diffusion, in line with international guidelines.
- Preparing isolates for long term storage at -80C.
- Managing the quality management system for the above activities, including equipment logs, QC, documentation and corrective action / preventive action as needed.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Appropriate qualification as a medical technologist (clinical pathology or microbiology).
- Registration with the HPCSA as a medical technologist.
- At least five years' experience working in an accredited microbiology laboratory.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Experience working in a research environment would be preferable.
- Experience with laboratory accreditation and ISO15189 would be preferable.
