Job description

Legal and Human Capital Strategy Director

Develop and oversee the strategic direction for the Legal and Human Capital Departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Provide leadership in developing short and long-term strategic objectives, and evaluate their effectiveness regularly.

Build and maintain relationships with external third parties, including assisting with fundraising efforts.

Collaborate with departmental leadership and stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and uphold the organization's integrity and reputation.

Legal Department Responsibilities
  1. Provide high-quality legal counsel to fund management and support departments.
  2. Ensure timely approval and disbursement processes.
  3. Manage litigation clients and optimize collections.
  4. Oversee legal budget and expenditure impact.
Operational Support
  1. Chair internal committees as delegated.
  2. Provide legal support to portfolio departments, including restructures and turnarounds.
  3. Stay informed about laws like BBBEE, FAIS, FICA, and PFMA.
  4. Develop litigation reporting frameworks and oversee compliance matters.
Human Capital Department Responsibilities
  1. Manage the Human Capital Department and develop/update its strategy.
  2. Align HR strategies with organizational goals.
  3. Ensure an enabling work environment and optimal resourcing.
  4. Oversee performance management and disciplinary processes.
Executive and People Management
  1. Participate in the Executive Committee and board meetings.
  2. Establish relationships with key stakeholders like DTIC CFO and GCFO.
  3. Manage staff performance, leadership, and succession planning.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Master's degree and admitted attorney preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience in legal, compliance, or HR fields.
  • Proven leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High integrity, strategic thinking, and resilience.
