Job summary

Kabstrading Co in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking a skilled surface preparation technician to prepare panels and surfaces for painting. You will degrease, sand and feather-edge surfaces, apply filler where needed and ensure a smooth base for coatings.

Primary duties include priming, masking, equipment maintenance and strict adherence to PPE and safety disposal procedures. This on-site role requires meticulous workmanship and safe handling of materials.

Responsibilities

• Clean and degrease surfaces prior to painting
• Sand and feather-edge panels to a smooth finish
• Fill dents or holes with body filler and grind for level surface
• Mix and apply primer coats, control film thickness and sand for a level finish
• Mask glass, trim and surrounding areas to prevent overspray
• Maintain and clean spray guns, sanders and paint booths; manage material waste safely
• Follow PPE protocols and dispose of hazardous waste properly

Surface Preparation: Clean, degrease, sand, and feather-edge panels or surfaces to remove rust, old paint, and dirt.Repairs: Perform minor body repairs, fill surface dents or holes using body filler, and grind areas smooth.Priming: Mix and apply primer coats accurately, control film thickness, and block-sand the primer for a level finish.Masking: Cover glass, trim, and surrounding unpainted areas with tape and paper to prevent overspray.Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain spray guns, sanders, and paint booths, while managing material waste safely.Safety Compliance: Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators and safety suits, and dispose of hazardous waste safely.
