Fruitways is a leading agri-business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.
Reporting to the Packhouse Manager, the successful candidate will be based at our Melpack Packhouse in Vyeboom. The position requires a pro-active and well-organized individual, ensuring an effective and efficient packing function by optimizing the use of resources and meeting production objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor effective fruit grading and packing procedures per specific market standards.
- Ensure correct working methods and procedures are adhered to with regards to food safety (BRC and HACCP).
- Report relevant production information to assist management in taking well informed decisions.
- Minimize downtime through effective planning and communication.
- Lead and develop a team of Supervisors.
- Driving continuous improvement practices
- Overseeing supervisors of fruit pack outs and batch balancing
- Dotted-line management of pallet intake department, ensuring effective pallet intake and stock processes
- Drawing up packing programme
Requirements:
- Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or similar qualification will be advantageous
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a production environment
- Knowledge and understanding of fruit quality standards, customer specifications and packing machinery
- Intermediate computer literacy – Excel skills, internal production system
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
