Job summary

Ubuntu RM in Gauteng is seeking a practical, hands-on Mechanic to maintain and repair production machinery and keep the plant running. This role is a physically demanding workshop and production floor position for someone who would rather be on the tools than behind a desk.

You will perform preventive maintenance, fault-find pneumatic and hydraulic systems, assist with machine setups and changeovers, and ensure safe, clean work areas with accurate records.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Trade test or relevant mechanical qualification required.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on mechanical maintenance in manufacturing.
• Experience with packaging, converting or printing machinery advantageous.
• Able to lift, climb and stand for long periods.
• Available to work every Saturday until 15:00.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical repairs and breakdown maintenance on production machinery.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance per maintenance plan.
• Fault-find on pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Strip, repair and reassemble mechanical components and assemblies.
• Assist with machine setups, changeovers and adjustments.
• Carry out basic fabrication, welding and machining as required.
• Maintain workshop tools, equipment and work areas.
• Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
• Work under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.
• Adhere to all health, safety and housekeeping standards.
