Education:
National Diploma or BCom equivalent in Logistics, Procurement Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years in a packaging procurement role, preferably within FMCG.
Job Responsibilities:
Sourcing Strategy:
- Develop and maintain sourcing strategies for key packaging categories, reflecting market dynamics and updating as conditions evolve.
- Communicate sourcing strategies with stakeholders, outlining expected business outcomes.
- Engage cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Marketing) to align on packaging initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of packaging trends, innovations, and competitor practices.
Sourcing of Packaging Materials and Suppliers:
- Source packaging materials from approved vendors following standard procedures.
- Identify and onboard new suppliers considering cost, sustainability, lead time, and reliability.
- Review and rationalize the supplier base to improve efficiency.
- Act as the main contact for suppliers on commercial and supply matters.
- Manage procurement aligning with MRP to ensure timely orders.
- Monitor delivery timelines, follow up on orders, and communicate risks or delays.
Cost and Price Management:
- Negotiate supplier prices with proper justification and approval.
- Identify and pursue cost-saving opportunities.
- Monitor cost drivers and prepare cost forecasts.
Supplier Relationship & Compliance Management:
- Ensure suppliers provide necessary compliance documentation.
- Maintain accurate supplier records with Quality standards.
- Facilitate onboarding and conduct regular reviews.
Imported Packaging Materials Management:
- Oversee procurement of imported packaging to ensure availability.
- Coordinate logistics to minimize penalties and costs.
Quality and Continuous Improvement:
- Align procurement with quality standards and regulations.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate on non-conformance resolutions.
- Maintain a register of savings initiatives.
- Lead projects to optimize costs and value.
- Support working capital improvements through strategic inventory management.
