Job summary

Arriva Group in Scarborough is seeking a hands-on Service Assistant to join our Light Maintenance team at Scarborough Depot. You will help complete overnight servicing, including Train Presentation and Fuel Point operations, ensuring the customer fleet is serviced, safe, and ready for service daily.

This role involves operating the fuel point and CET plant, performing nightly train presentations, fuelling traction units, filling water tanks, replenishing oils and coolants, and supporting

Qualifications

• Good standard of education.
• Basic IT literacy.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Strong teamworking and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and follow set routines.
• Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Engineering or equivalent (BTEC / City & Guilds).
• Experience in mechanical, engineering, or depot environments.
• Knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance or depot operations.
• Understanding of production efficiency techniques.

Responsibilities

• Operate the fuel point and CET plant safely and efficiently.
• Conduct nightly train presentation of the customer units.
• Fuelling traction units and replenishing water tanks, oils, coolants, and screenwash.
• Supporting other on-train system top-ups and depot operations.
• Maintaining housekeeping standards across the fuel point and depot.
• Completing required paperwork accurately and following PPE procedures.
