Placements24 seeks a Research Scientist in Organic Synthesis to design and execute complex synthetic routes for novel compounds in Stellenbosch. You will work in a well-equipped lab, collaborating across teams to move projects from concept to proof-of-concept.

The role requires a PhD in Organic Chemistry with hands-on purification and analytical skills (NMR, MS, IR). Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in modern organic synthesis techniques and reaction mechanisms.
• Hands-on experience with purification methods (e.g., chromatography) and compound characterization.
• Proficiency in literature searching and utilizing chemical databases.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to research challenges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel organic molecules using a variety of chemical reactions and methodologies.
• Optimize reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and efficiency of synthetic routes.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using modern analytical techniques (NMR, MS, IR, etc.).
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and develop creative solutions to achieve research objectives.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and document experimental procedures and results accurately.
• Collaborate with colleagues on cross-functional research projects and contribute to scientific discussions.
