Job description

Optometry Receptionist (Entry-Level) required in Ermelo.

An opportunity for an Entry-Level Optometry Receptionist is available for permanent employment based in Ermelo.

Salary: R6 000 – R8 000 per month (dependent on experience).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reception & Front Office Duties:

  • Greet patients and visitors warmly and professionally.
  • Answer incoming calls and handle inquiries or appointment bookings.
  • Confirm and manage bookings using in-practice scheduling systems.
  • Ensure the reception and waiting area are always neat, clean and welcoming.
  • Check-in patients, update personal and medical aid information, and assist with check-out and payments.

Administrative Support:

  • Capture and update patient records accurately.
  • File and scan patient documents confidentially and securely.
  • Manage and track invoices, quotations and basic medical aid submissions.
  • Assist with ordering and stock control of lenses, frames and consumables.
  • Liaise with suppliers and follow up on outstanding orders where required.

Customer Service & Product Support:

  • Provide product knowledge assistance (frames, lenses, accessories) where needed.
  • Coordinate collections and ensure customer follow-ups are actioned.
  • Address basic concerns or queries with warmth and professionalism.
  • Build a trusted relationship with returning patients and their families.

Requirements:

Minimum:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans (verbal and written)
  • Well-spoken with a friendly, polished telephone manner
  • Computer literate (MS Office & basic POS experience ideal)
  • Able to manage time, tasks and multiple responsibilities efficiently
  • Trustworthy with high integrity – financial and patient confidentiality is key

Advantageous:

  • Prior experience in a front-desk, optometry or medical practice role
  • Knowledge of basic accounting, invoicing or practice management software
  • Familiarity with eye care products (frames, lenses, contact lenses)
