Job description

Core Description

To provide a stable and secure production database environment that performs in alignment with predefined standards and is recoverable in case of hardware failure or disaster situations.

To provide technical expertise and guidance to Junior Database Administrators.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions
  1. Compile and maintain the integrity of a Configuration Management Data Base in alignment with BCX's standards and using the BCX prescribed systems.
  2. Utilise the BCX Remedy system for request, incident, and problem handling, rectifying and implementing preventative actions as needed.
  3. Continuously monitor performance, analyse trends, tune database for optimal performance, and build a known error database (KEDB) for Problem Handling (R&D).
  4. Build and maintain a support network including vendors, employees, and user groups for consultation purposes.
  5. Stay updated with the latest release versions, ensure approval through UAT and QA processes, design and execute release plans, maintain the DSL, and manage license issues.
  6. Monitor and report on space utilization, perform trend analysis, alerts, escalation, and monitor memory and CPU usage.
  7. Devise monitoring methodologies, utilize appropriate tools, and report on system availability and uptime.
  8. Identify and implement toolsets for backup strategies to ensure service continuity, and validate the DR plan considering replication and snapshots as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
  • NQF 6: 3-year Degree / Diploma / National Diploma OR
  • NQF 4: Grade 12
Preferred Experience
  • 3 years' experience with Oracle Database Administration OR
  • Grade 12 & 5 years' experience with Oracle Database Administration
