Role Overview
The Supervisor will play a pivotal role in managing our Waste Management operations accordingly to Company Standards, managing staff members and strengthening the Company’s’ dedication to Safety. Key Responsibilities
OPERATIONS
- Ensure that all drivers are dispatched each morning.
- Ensure the drivers are correctly briefed and understand clearly what their duties for the day are. Also ensure they are debriefed upon return and that all documentation is returned.
- Ensure that all orders received on day-to-day basis are noted on the board / book and indicated as to when the service must be rendered.
- Ensure that drivers have the correct manifests before departing and that the drivers clearly understand what bins to go and swap.
- Make sure that no job will be carried out without an order number.
- Be in contact with the drivers constantly to ensure all is well and that they are performing their duties.
- Constantly track the drivers on C Track and be aware of their whereabouts.
- Before the end of each day ensure that work for the next day is in place and planned.
- Regular site visits or work supervision whenever work is done onsite.
- Ensuring that a follow up is done with our customers and ensuring they are satisfied with our service.
- Managing and monitoring staff working hours on a daily basis and making sure the correct times are recorded.
- Report every incident or any change to operations to the Depot manager. Every issue must be reported to the manager in order to make him aware and for advice. No matter how simple one thinks the incident is. Failure to report may lead to disciplinary action.
- Ensuring that vehicles are in good status and compliant.
- Generating manifests to be used for disposals.
- Ensuring that drivers and assistants records are up to date, medicals, drivers licences, inductions and any other documentation required to ensure they are eligible to carry out their work.
- Monitor and control Diesel usage ensuring it is correctly utilised and has no losses.
- Assist drivers as an assistant should there be a need.
- Assist in the co-ordination and scheduling of driver training requirements (incl. updating the training matrix, filing and maintenance of all training records).
- Assist in the capturing of driver wages on a monthly basis (fuel and gas) and ensure all wages are captured correctly before submission to HR.
- Ensure general and day-to-day administration tasks are completed in line with company policies and procedures.
- Assist in the collection and the administration of all vehicle documentation (incl. vehicle license, logbooks, fire permits, dip charts, meter calibration certificates, sensor certificates).
- Assist in the monitoring of operations to ensure organizational goals are met.
- Generate relevant operational documentation.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, revive and participate in the work of staff responsible for the Depot.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing waste management services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- To assist in the implementation of the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit including implementing changes to improve efficiency and plant operation cost effectiveness.
- To assist in the coordination of the laboratory sampling and analysis and ensure plant compliance with current waste discharge requirements as established by Legislation.
- To assist in the submission of justification for system or facilities repair or expansion.
- To assist in the coordination of activities of private contractors to minimize disruption of plant processes.
- Participate in the selection of operations staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the operations budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- To assist in the preparation of analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of waste management plant operations.
- The maintenance, upkeep and management of the logistic fleet that reports into the Depot.
- To assist in the management of the personnel relating to the fleet in Northern Cape.
- To assist in the management, data collection of, submission thereof all administration to the Depot Manager.
- Ensuring all activities are in line with client requirements, e.g bin types, delivery dates, etc.
- Encourage new Business development by meeting clients, building / enhancing relationships with clients, assisting in tenders, documentation, etc.

- Drive the Company’s’ Zero Harm policy within your area of operations.
- Compliance with all health & safety requirements in line with the company's OHS policies & procedures.
- Work within the ISO frameworks and other required by Clients.
- Ensure all SHEQ policies and requirements are upheld and met.
- Ensure SHEQ site file is implemented and maintained.

- To be responsible for maintaining discipline by using the Company's disciplinary code and procedures, as well as attending to grievances
- Ensure that all staff members are adequately trained as per the SLA and OSHA requirements
COMMUNICATION AND FEEDBACK
- Build and maintain strong client relationship with clients.
- Regular communication with clients.
- Understand and manage the needs of clients.
- Ensure all your superiors are notified in a timely manner regarding aspects of your areas as deemed necessary by them.
- Deal with personnel matters such as reporting incidents, customer complaints, requesting new employees, extension of contracts and terminations to your manager.
- Ensure your manager is informed off all staff related matters that will affect the organisation in a dire manner immediately (e.g. IR).
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric
- 3 – 5 Years supervisory experience
- 3 – 5 Years Recycling experience
- 3-5 Years supervisory experience in a Logistics environment.
- Intermediate ability in Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Own transport and flexibility to travel
