Operations Manager - Warehouse

Our client in the Chemical Industry requires an Operations Manager for their Warehouse to help maintain and grow the standards of the operation and to oversee daily activities.

The ideal candidate will have a sharp business mind and proven success in managing multiple departments for maximum productivity.

This person will be highly skilled in human resources and warehouse management, and be able to develop and maintain strong customer relations within the branch to achieve growth and profitability.

Overview of Job Requirements

FINANCE AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

1. Manage the operational budget, with high focus on cost management.
2. Authorize expenditure within authority levels.
3. Assist with operational budget inputs (resources, material handling equipment, labour, consumables, etc.).
4. Participate in the Monthly billing and sign off on invoicing.
5. Management of any insurance claims.
6. Management Reporting.
7. Adhere to corporate governance.

OPERATIONAL & TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT

1. Verify, amend, update, and approve the necessary SOPs to ensure effective Warehouse, Project, and Client management.
2. Continually improve and / or enhance service offerings.
3. Health and Safety Management, Client Compliance, and overall Compliance by staff.

HUMAN RESOURCES

1. Conduct performance appraisals for all immediate sub-ordinates.
2. Manage absenteeism, overtime, and access control.
3. Ensure that Company IR process is adhered to at all times; initiate and chair disciplinary inquiries as and when required.
4. Identify and address training needs through the workplace skills plan received from the training department.
5. Ensure updates are placed on notice boards.
6. Motivate staff and coordinate all staff functions.
7. Review employee potential and growth plan; follow up on the plans and encourage employee development.
8. Identify and assist with retaining highflyers.

RISK MANAGEMENT

1. Maintain operational legal compliance.
2. Conduct a daily management walkabout of the facility to ensure compliance.
3. Convene daily operations discussions with departmental heads.
4. Review stock take / cycle count reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; sign off and report on discrepancies.
5. Conduct regular meetings with key suppliers to maintain good relationships.
6. Implement and maintain SLAs with key suppliers and measure compliance to SLAs on a monthly basis.
7. Chair monthly safety meetings as and when required.
8. Ensure that all departments are operating at optimal levels.
9. Ensure that the operation adheres to licensing and permit requirements (Forklift licenses, Fire Marshall, etc.).
10. Manage and coordinate response to incidents on site as required (spills, injuries, etc.).
11. Manage and coordinate emergency drills.
12. Ensure all incidents are reported immediately; chair incident investigations and assist with compiling the incident reports.
13. Prepare for internal and external audits (ISO, SHERQ, DEL, Customers).

Experience and Qualifications

1. Proven work experience as Operations Manager or similar role.
2. Minimum three years Chemical industry-related experience will be advantageous.
3. Degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field essential.
4. Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management.
5. Experience in budgeting and forecasting.
6. Familiarity with business and financial principles.
7. Experience in Inventory Management.
8. Experience in Staff Management.
9. Leadership ability.
10. Understanding of Syspro and Pastel Accounting programs will be advantageous.
11. Valid, unendorsed Driver's License.
