Job Description

A vacancy exists for an Operational Manager to be based at the Skukuza Veterinary Wildlife Services in the Kruger National Park, reporting to the General Manager: Wildlife Management and Strategic Support. The position is graded a D2 level.

Responsibilities
  • To coordinate the implementation of planned wildlife operations and species according to SANParks’ strategy.
  • To ensure sound governance and financial management of operations.
  • To mentor Supervisors and identify required human capital development interventions.
  • To provide specified services to and on behalf of the organisation, with reference to the wildlife management plan, wildlife sales, wildlife economy project, and other project management.
  • To coordinate and liaise with internal and external clients to ensure that the agreed requirements are met.
  • To coordinate the resources and equipment required for the successful capture and holding of wildlife.
  • To ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislations pertaining to wildlife operations and facilities.
  • To identify risks associated with wildlife operations and recommend improvements.
  • To coordinate and execute on-site capture and holding activities.
  • To provide the relevant capture operations data to management.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Tech in Nature Conservation / BSc Conservation Management.
  • 4 – 6 years wildlife capture experience.
  • Driver’s licence (normal & heavy vehicles).
  • Experience as a Capture Supervisor.
  • Animal behaviour skills, capture, holding and relocation experience.
  • Experienced Operations Coordinator with excellent communication skills.
  • Execution of scheduled operations.
  • Firearm Competency.
  • Staff Supervision.
  • Knowledge of Safety regulations and animal handling skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislations, SANParks policies and procedures, vet pharmaceuticals and associated hazardous materials.
  • Good administration & finance management skills.
