About the Role

Our client, a major mining operation in the Rustenburg, North West region, is seeking a strategic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee the efficient and safe operation of their critical energy systems. This role is essential for ensuring a stable and cost-effective power supply to support continuous mining activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and technicians, optimizing energy consumption, and implementing innovative solutions to enhance power reliability and sustainability. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of industrial energy infrastructure within the mining context.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of the mining operation's energy infrastructure, including power generation, distribution, and sub-station management.
• Develop and implement strategic plans for energy efficiency, cost reduction, and resource optimization.
• Ensure the reliability, safety, and compliance of all energy systems with relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of electrical and mechanical equipment related to energy supply.
• Manage the operational budget for the energy department, including capital expenditure planning.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
• Investigate and resolve operational issues, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with other departments to forecast energy needs and ensure seamless integration with production schedules.
• Stay informed about new energy technologies and best practices relevant to the mining industry.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., Pr.Eng) is advantageous.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in industrial operations management, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role focusing on energy systems.
• Extensive knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, and industrial power generation (e.g., diesel, gas turbines).
• Proven experience in managing large operational budgets and capital projects within the mining or heavy industry sectors.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and environmental regulations pertinent to industrial operations.
• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic planning abilities.
• Proficiency in relevant operational software and systems.
• Must be willing to reside in or commute regularly to the Rustenburg area and available for occasional site visits and emergency call-outs.
