Job description

An established and reputable manufacturing business is seeking a highly capable Operations Manager to lead and drive operational excellence across production, maintenance, design, and SHEQ departments. The ideal candidate is hands-on, strategic, and equipped with strong leadership and labour relations experience.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage the production team, including 1 Foreman, 2 Leaders, and 34 weekly paid staff.
  • Oversee the maintenance function, consisting of 1 monthly-paid and 1 weekly-paid team member.
  • Manage the design department, consisting of 1 monthly-paid employee.
  • Lead the SHEQ team, made up of 3 monthly-paid staff, ensuring compliance and excellence.
  • Take ownership of production planning, working closely with both the sales and supply chain departments.
  • Ensure effective implementation of operational processes, quality standards, and safety systems.

Core Competencies & Requirements :

  • Strong HR capabilities with experience in handling disciplinary processes, labour legislation, and union engagements.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, implement structure, and drive accountability at all levels.
  • Confident in union negotiations and maintaining productive labour relationships.
  • Highly hands-on, with practical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to operations.
  • Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Capable of leading and contributing to Microsoft Teams meetings in a professional and impactful manner.
  • Fully computer literate; experience in Syspro ERP is an advantage.
  • Familiar with operational excellence tools including SFM, PDCA, and 5S methodologies.
  • Must reside in or near the West Rand for operational responsiveness and availability.
