Job description

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking to hire a Operations Manager based in Cape Town.

The Operations Manager Warehouse Management plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing warehouse operations to ensure efficiency safety and compliance. This role is responsible for managing daytoday operations including inventory control staff supervision picking inbound and outbound logistics safety compliance and continuous process improvement. The Operations Manager will lead a team collaborate with crossfunctional departments and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency reduce costs and maintain high service levels within the supply chain.

As part of the onboarding process the selected candidate will undergo a 3month attachment program (with potential for extension depending on experience) to provide comprehensive exposure to all areas of warehouse operations. This structured program will involve rotating through different departments such as picking inbound & outbound inventory management and safety compliance. After completing the program the candidate will transition to a specific department within warehouse operations based on their strengths interests and business needs.

• Warehouse Operations Management :
• Oversee the daily management of warehouse operations including receiving picking inbound & outbound and storage.
• Ensure smooth coordination of inbound and outbound logistics managing delivery schedules and maintaining inventory accuracy.
• Monitor workflow space utilization and ensure the effective use of warehouse equipment and technology.
• Implement and drive best practices to streamline warehouse processes and improve overall operational efficiency
• Inventory Control & Management :
• Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory and stockouts.
• Implement inventory management systems (e.g. Warehouse Management Software WMS) to monitor stock levels track movement and ensure accuracy.
• Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
• Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment aiming to reduce back orders and delivery delays.
• Staff Supervision & Development :
• Lead train and develop warehouse staff including scheduling performance evaluations and fostering a positive work environment.
• Manage employee relations including conflict resolution discipline coaching and maintaining productivity.
• Drive team motivation to meet and exceed organizational goals.
• Oversee disciplinary hearings and manage performance improvement plans where necessary.
• Safety & Compliance :
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and warehouse policies including relevant industry regulations (e.g. OSHA health & safety laws).
• Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary to mitigate risks.
• Organize and conduct safety training sessions for warehouse staff ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.
• Maintain a clean organized and safe working environment for all employees.
• Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency :
• Analyze warehouse operations and identify areas for improvement in workflow layout equipment utilization and resource allocation.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational waste enhance productivity and improve overall service levels.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams (e.g. procurement logistics customer service) to streamline warehouse operations.
• Manage warehouse systems (such as WMS) to optimize overall performance and improve efficiency.
• Reporting & Documentation :
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports on warehouse performance including KPIs inventory levels and operational efficiency.
• Ensure all operational documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner adhering to company policies and compliance regulations.
• Use WMS and other tools to monitor track and report on warehouse operations.
• Logistics Coordination :
• Manage relationships with suppliers carriers and thirdparty logistics providers to ensure costeffective and timely deliveries.
• Coordinate inbound logistics ensuring goods are properly received unloaded and stored.
• Oversee outbound logistics ensuring timely dispatch accurate order fulfillment and proper documentation.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification (e.g. in Business Supply Chain Management Logistics or a related field).
• Two to three years experience in an operational role (preferably in warehouse logistics or supply chain management).
• Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Ability to work in a fastpaced dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and warehouse management software (e.g. SAP WMS)
• Skills and Competencies :

• Organizational : Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities.
