Operations & Maintenance Engineer (Solar) - Pretoria, GP Gauteng

Our client is looking for a dedicated and skilled Operations and Maintenance Engineer to join our team. The O&M Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of solar PV systems through effective operations and maintenance strategies. This role includes monitoring system performance, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, analysing faults, and supporting compliance with technical standards and client expectations. This role will not entail any design work.

Job Specification

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring & Performance Analysis
• Monitor real-time and historical system data to detect underperformance or anomalies.
• Analyse system KPIs and energy yield to ensure contractual performance guarantees are met.
• Use SCADA, monitoring portals, and data analysis tools to track performance trends.
• Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
• Plan and execute scheduled maintenance activities to ensure longevity and efficiency of system components.
• Respond to faults or alarms, diagnose issues, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Supervise or assist field technicians and electricians during site interventions.
• 24/7 availability for off-site support.
• Technical Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance and maintenance reports.
• Maintain logs of maintenance activities, spare parts usage, and site inspections.
• Assist in root cause analyses and technical investigations.
• Keep as-built documentation updated.
• Compliance & Safety
• Ensure systems comply with local electrical codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.
• Conduct and enforce safety risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Support audit processes and HSE inspections.
• Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination
• Liaise with clients, OEMs, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations.
• Support warranty claim processes and manage service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Coordinate procurement and inventory of spare parts and consumables.
