Job summary

Shift Pursuit, a leading private hospital in Gauteng, seeks an Operating Theatre Trained Registered Nurse with a passion for perioperative care. You will scrub, assist surgeons, monitor patients, and ensure aseptic technique across surgeries in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 2–3 years in theatre scrub nursing, SANC registration as a General Nurse, and relevant perioperative qualifications. ACLS/BLS are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Operating Theatre Nursing/Perioperative Nursing.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse.
• Diploma/Degree in General Nursing.
• 2–3 years of theatre scrub nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based perioperative nursing care to patients following hospital policies and theatre protocols.
• Prepare the operating theatre for procedures: ensure instruments, equipment and consumables are available and sterile.
• Perform the role of Scrub Nurse during procedures, maintaining aseptic technique and preserving the sterile field.
• Anticipate surgeon needs by preparing, handling and passing instruments and specialized equipment.
• Conduct accurate surgical counts of instruments, swabs, needles, and consumables per hospital policy.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation and draping while protecting dignity and safety.
• Monitor patients through the perioperative process and report concerns to the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure theatre equipment and devices are properly operated, maintained and ready for use.
• Maintain accurate perioperative documentation in line with legal and professional standards.

• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by accurately preparing, handling, and passing instruments, sutures, and specialized equipment during procedures.
• Conduct accurate surgical counts of instruments, swabs, needles, and consumables in accordance with hospital policies and patient safety standards.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping while ensuring patient dignity, safety, and pressure area care are maintained.
• Monitor patients throughout the perioperative process and promptly identify and report any concerns or changes to the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure all theatre equipment, specialized instruments, and surgical devices are properly operated, maintained, and readily available for procedures.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive perioperative documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
