Job summary

The ideal candidate has 5+ years with PostgreSQL and related tech, strong SQL tuning, Linux admin skills, and proficiency with Ansible/Terraform, Prometheus, and cloud DB services.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years’ production PostgreSQL/open-source DB experience.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture and tools.
• Experience with replication, high availability and DR.
• Experience with Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
• Experience with SAFe Agile.
• Experience with cloud DB services (AWS RDS, Azure, GCP).
• Certifications in PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure or Linux are a plus.

Job description

The role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, management, optimization and security of open-source database environments. The role will support critical databases and work with business, development, DevOps, infrastructure and security teams to ensure availability, performance and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Support PostgreSQL and other open-source databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB and Redis.
• Support cloud database solutions such as AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL and Azure Database.
• Manage and troubleshoot Oracle GoldenGate replication.
• Provide support for critical systems, including on-call support.
• Design and maintain high-availability, replication and disaster recovery solutions.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade and migrate databases.
• Monitor and optimize database performance.
• Perform capacity planning and resource management.
• Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies.
• Ensure active-active and disaster recovery environments remain synchronized.
• Automate database administration using scripts, configuration management, IaC and CI/CD tools.
• Work with business and IT teams on projects and new requirements.
• Manage database users, permissions and security.
• Document database configurations, processes and best practices.
• Provide management updates on support, projects, risks and challenges.
• Comply with information security policies and protect information assets.

Required Skills and Experience

• Degree in STEM or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing PostgreSQL or open-source databases in production.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, internals and tools.
• Experience with replication, high availability and disaster recovery.
• Strong SQL query writing and tuning skills.
• Experience with SAFe Agile.
• Experience working in hybrid cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure.
• Good Linux administration knowledge, including RHEL, CentOS or Ubuntu.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or Zabbix.
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
• PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure, GCP or Linux certifications.
• Experience with JIRA and Confluence.
• Experience working with DevOps and DevSecOps teams.
• Experience in multinational teams.
• Knowledge of AWS RDS, GCP and Azure database services.
