Job description

The Intermediate Phase Head / Primary Principal is responsible for overseeing and managing the academic program for the primary school within the IEB curriculum at client's online school. This role involves leading the primary school in ensuring the delivery of high-quality education, maintaining compliance withIEB standards, and supporting teachers and students in achieving academic excellence.

The Phase Head / Primary Principal will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the curriculum is effectively implemented, assessments are conducted according to IEB requirements, and continuous professional development for teachers is provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Academic Leadership :

Provide leadership and strategic direction for the primary school, ensuring alignment with the school's vision and mission.

Ensure that all teaching practices are aligned with IEB standards and the school’s educational philosophy.

Monitor and support the academic performance of students, working with teachers to implement strategies for improvement where necessary.

Curriculum and Assessment Management :

  • Ensure the curriculum is up-to-date, relevant, and meets the requirements of the IEB.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of assessments, including tests, exams, and assignments, ensuring they are in line with IEB guidelines.
  • Oversee the moderation process for assessments, ensuring accuracy and consistency in grading.
  • Ensure compliance with IEB regulations concerning assessments, marking, and reporting.

Teacher Support and Development :

  • Lead and mentor the primary school phase teachers, providing guidance and support to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of the teachers and provide constructive feedback.
  • Facilitate collaboration among teachers to share best practices and resources

Student Support and Engagement :

  • Monitor student progress and identify students who require additional support or intervention.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students in need.
  • Promote student engagement through innovative teaching methods and the integration of technology in the learning process.
  • Oversee the management of academic records and ensure timely and accurate reporting of student progress.

IEB Compliance and External Relations :

  • Maintain strong relationships with the IEB and ensure that the school is compliant with all IEB policies and procedures.
  • Attend IEB workshops, training sessions, and meetings to stay informed about changes and updates to the curriculum and assessment policies.
  • Ensure that all documentation required by the IEB, including exam entries and results, is submitted accurately and on time.

Operational Management :

  • Develop and manage the eacademic calendar in coordination with the school’s overall academic schedule.
  • Manage the administration of exams, including the coordination of invigilation and set up of exams.

Stakeholder Communication :

  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and students regarding academic progress, curriculum updates, and other relevant information.
  • Organize and lead parent-teacher meetings and other events to engage parents in their children's education.

Quality Assurance :

  • Implement a continuous improvement process to ensure that the school is delivering high-quality education.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends and areas where interventions may be required.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Professional teaching qualification and registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
  • Extensive experience teaching within the IEB curriculum, particularly in the Intermediate Phase
  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably in an online school
