Job summary

EnableSA in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, seeks an experienced Generator Technician / Industrial Electrician to join the local team. You will perform preventive maintenance on diesel and petrol generators and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults, including engine controllers and ATS systems.

Responsibilities include engine overhauls, wiring and commissioning, load bank testing, and maintaining detailed service logs. A Code EB license and Port Elizabeth residence are required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in generator mechanics or industrial electrical systems
• Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics and AC/DC electrical theory
• Familiarity with controllers such as DSE, ComAp, or Lovato
• Health and safety protocols for high-voltage equipment and fuel handling
• Valid Code EB (or higher) license for site visits
• On-call rotation availability for after-hours repairs
• Must reside in Port Elizabeth / Uitenhage area

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel and petrol generators (oil changes, filter replacements, cooling system flushes)
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults including engine controllers and AVRs
• Conduct minor engine overhauls and component replacements
• Assist in positioning, wiring, and commissioning of new power units and ATS
• Perform load bank testing to ensure system operation within specs under stress
• Maintain accurate digital logs of service history, parts used, and site conditions
