Position: Senior Business and Technical Specialist – Card and Payment Business

This role includes management, technical, and operational support for Mastercard, 10x, and Paymentology service partners, with a focus on driving digital payments solutions for cards.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Provide second-line managerial and technical support within the Card business and project implementation teams.
  • Deep understanding of the digital payments landscape.
  • Stay informed on new digital payment solutions and their implementation processes.
  • Successfully drive digital payments projects from development through to implementation.
  • Align solutions with the bank’s customer strategy.
  • Partner with the Head of Card to manage Mastercard and Paymentology relationships to achieve strategic goals.
  • Assist in product and team planning for both short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Contribute to team performance management.
  • Participate in billing and budget discussions.
  • Understand the fraud landscape related to card payments.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders involved in the card and payments ecosystem.
  • Represent the bank at relevant industry forums and engagements, including SARB interactions.
  • Contribute to industry papers and the bank’s position on SARB industry consultations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners like Mastercard, Paymentology, and 10x to ensure project delivery and incident resolution.
  • Support Business Analysts in defining business requirements for projects.
  • Prioritize projects within the roadmap.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers.
  • Support the second-line team in resolving customer card transaction queries.
  • Handle escalation of unresolved card incidents.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation, including SOPs, UAT testing, and post-deployment reviews.
  • Review transaction reports and analyze customer transaction data for insights.
  • Participate in audits and ensure operational compliance with industry regulations.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary education in a relevant technical or business field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in card and related operational roles.
  • Strong understanding of card technology and commercial aspects supporting card payments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of card payment systems.
  • Operational experience with Mastercard and/or Paymentology is advantageous.
  • Proactive, energetic, and capable of leading diverse teams. Must thrive in high-change environments and demonstrate initiative and ownership.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the payments industry, schemes, regulations, and the National Payment System (NPS).
  • Deep understanding of data flow in card transactions.
  • Knowledge of the 4-party payment model.
  • Understanding of Mastercard’s regional position.
  • Familiarity with PASA and PCH frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools.
  • Basic financial and accounting principles.
