Job summary

The Well Digger (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Occupational Health & Safety and Compliance Officer to integrate safety across sanitation, cleaning and construction operations. This role owns the OHS framework, supports SHE Representatives, and reports directly to the director on compliance with the applicable Act.

You will conduct risk assessments, investigations, and maintain up-to-date safety records across multiple sites, ensuring readiness for audits and inspections.

Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health or a related field.
• Three to five years of relevant experience.
• Strong working knowledge of OHS legislation and compliance requirements.
• Experience in construction, cleaning, sanitation or chemical handling, or a combination of them.
• Experience carrying out risk assessments and investigating incidents.
• The ability to manage SHE Representatives and run OHS systems.
• Valid driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Run the company's occupational health and safety systems, and keep them current with the legislation.
• Carry out risk assessments across construction, cleaning, sanitation and chemical handling, and follow the controls through to the ground.
• Investigate incidents, write them up, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Manage and support the SHE Representatives, and keep their training and appointments up to date.
• Keep safety files, registers and compliance records accessible for inspectors or auditors.
• Inspect sites and premises to address non-compliance before it leads to incidents.
• Advise the director and site supervisors on legal requirements early.
