Job description

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Matric.
  2. A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution in South Africa.
  3. Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Occupational Therapist.
  4. Qualified in WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE).
  5. At least 2 years of experience within Medico-Legal.
  6. Strong clinical skills in assessing, evaluating, and treating individuals with physical, cognitive, or psychosocial limitations.
  7. Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Evaluation: Assess the impact of injuries or disabilities on daily life and functional abilities.
  2. Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE): Conduct FCEs to assess physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities. Determine task performance and return-to-work capabilities post-injury.
  3. Medical Record Review: Analyse medical records, diagnostics, and treatment plans. Provide professional opinions and recommendations based on history, current condition, and prognosis.
  4. Report Writing: Compile concise and objective reports summarising evaluation findings, treatment plans, and recommendations.
  5. Expert Testimony: Offer expert testimony in legal proceedings, including depositions and trials, on evaluation findings and the impact of injuries on occupational functioning.
  6. Information Gathering: Collect and review information from various sources for medico-legal cases. Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation.
  7. Research and Continuing Education: Stay up to date with the latest developments in the occupational therapy and medicolegal fields. Engage in ongoing education and research to support medico-legal cases with credible evidence.
  8. Ethics and Confidentiality: Adhere to legal and ethical guidelines, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. Maintain accurate records and securely manage evidence throughout the medico-legal process.
