ABOUT HMM

Hotazel Manganese Mines (HMM) is made up of two Manganese mines Mamatwan and Wessels. Both operations are located in the Kalahari Basin, home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese reserves.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As an occupational medical practitioner , you will be responsible to perform occupational medical duties of an Occupational Medical Practitioner (OMP) as required by the Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996) associated with the effective operation of the South32 HMM clinic. To advise on workplace health and safety issues and recommend measures to prevent injuries and illnesses. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all employees.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Determine a risk based medical surveillance and fitness to work programme ;
  • Ill health and Occupational Disease Management
  • Emergency Medical Care;
  • Provide occupational medical and health advisory management and health education;
  • Legislative compliance, policy development and implementation;
  • Emergency care experience.
  • Plan and execute a risk base Biological Monitoring Programme .
  • Plan and execute an effective Epidemic and Pandemic management programme .

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a registered Occupational Medical Practitioner in the mining industry;
  • 3 years’ work experience in managing incapacity and disability cases and other occupational health related matters such as medical surveillance programs;
  • Experience in biological monitoring programs.

Qualifications for this role are:

  • MBChB qualification recognized by the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA);
  • Occupational Medicine qualification recognized by the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
