takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Occupational Health and Safety Officer to join our Supply Chain team in Cape Town DC.

This position reports to the Risk and Security Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring all safety documentation is signed off by relevant employees
  • Completing environmental, housekeeping, and safety surveys with sign-offs from stakeholders
  • Properly signing off and updating appointment records for new employees
  • Maintaining updated employee files with relevant documentation
  • Managing external legal compliance documents
  • Scheduling and tracking training that is due for renewal or required
  • Reporting health, safety, or environmental issues to management
  • Completing and signing off on all safety checklists and inspections
  • Resolving faults identified during inspections
  • Holding at least one monthly H&S meeting with the H&S committee
  • Securing sign-off on all H&S policies
  • Coordinating emergency exit and fire drills with management
  • Ensuring employee compliance with safety regulations and training
  • Identifying risks, conducting risk assessments, and training employees on safe procedures
  • Ensuring contractors comply with H&S standards as per SOP
Qualifications and attributes:
  • Diploma in Health and Safety, Samtrac, or Nebosh certification
  • At least 2 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation
  • Mathematically inclined
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices within operations
  • Excellent analytical, auditing, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Energetic and capable of working in a high-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and quality
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and improve
  • Team player with a positive attitude and flexibility
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong grasp of the health and safety system and documentation
