A vacancy exists for a Nurse Educator, based at East London Learning Centre, reporting to the Regional Education Manager, Thriscilla Pillay. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing competent and qualified nurses to meet the needs of LHC and external healthcare providers by facilitating nursing education programs.
Critical Outputs
Ensure the effective recruitment and selection of learners by:
- Participating in planned recruitment drives to schools / open day.
Effective registration of learners with regulatory bodies by:
- Participating in the registration of learners with SANC and obtaining proof of registration.
- Compiling examination entry and re-entry of learners who meet SANC Professional Entrance Examination requirements, submitting necessary documentation, and obtaining proof of examination entry.
- Ensuring completion of training, checking clinical and theoretical hours and assessment marks, and completing documentation for registration of qualification with SANC.
Ensure the effective facilitation of nursing programs by:
- Facilitating subjects allocated per academic program in alignment with curriculum, teaching, and learning strategies, ensuring student engagement both in contact and online learning.
- Providing clinical accompaniment for students in practice.
- Loading relevant learning activities onto Moodle.
- Participating in clinical forums and program workshops for continuous improvement.
- Reviewing learner feedback and collaborating with team to resolve issues using quality improvement methods.
Ensure effective assessment (theory and practical) of learners by:
- Participating in setting and conducting assessments according to college standards and schedule.
- Marking assessments, collating results, and planning interventions where necessary.
- Using assessment data to identify trends and improve teaching and learning quality.
- Recognizing high-performing learners and rewarding them.
- Submitting exam entries for summative assessments.
Ensure professional socialization of learners by:
- Inducting and orienting learners into the college and nursing culture.
- Monitoring their professional development.
Promote research and evidence-based practice by:
- Supervising learner research projects.
- Participating in research committees and colloquia.
- Engaging in college research initiatives.
Build effective relationships with stakeholders by:
- Participating in clinical forums and providing feedback on student progress.
- Engaging with professional associations.
Contribute to curriculum development by:
- Participating in curriculum and program review activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing and postgraduate qualification in Nursing Education.
- Experience in nursing education (1-3 years preferred).
- Additional postgraduate qualification and Masters’ degree are advantageous.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council for all qualifications, including assessor and moderator qualifications.
- Understanding of private healthcare industry is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Moodle.
- Driver’s license and willingness to travel.
