Now Hiring : SCADA Engineer – Energy focussedNow Hiring : SCADA Engineer – Energy focussedJob Title : SCADA Engineer – Energy focussedLocation : Johannesburg, South AfricaJob Type : Full-TimeJob Summary : We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient SCADA Engineer with hands-on experience in solar PV plant Power Plant Controller (PPC) design, programming, and commissioning, as well as grid integration and compliance.

The role includes review and integration of third-party SCADA system designs into the full plant control architecture.

This position is ideal for a young engineer with 3+ years of experience, based in Johannesburg, and passionate about developing themselves in the dynamic energy, automation, and grid-tied infrastructure environment.Key Responsibilities : Develop concept designs and or specification for subcontractors, vendors or equipment suppliers to respond toReview and validate SCADA system designs submitted by contractors, vendors, or equipment suppliers, ensuring compliance with project specifications and grid requirements.Lead or support the integration of third-party SCADA components into the overall facility control system and ensure end-to-end system interoperability.Configuration and implementation of Power Plant Controller (PPC) logic to meet utility grid code and operational requirements.Interface with inverters, weather stations, energy meters, protection relays, and communication networks for real-time monitoring and control.Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and system commissioning, both remotely and on-site.Conduct system troubleshooting, tuning, and optimization during commissioning and operational phases.Ensure proper documentation is produced, including SCADA architecture, communication diagrams, I / O lists, and functional design specifications.Coordinate with the EPC and energy plant Operators, utilities (e.g., Eskom), and system integrators throughout the project lifecycle.Support grid compliance testing and verification, including reactive power control, ramp rate control, and frequency response capabilities.Promote SCADA cybersecurity best practices and ensure reliability of networked control environments.Required Qualifications & Experience : National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering.Minimum 3 years of experience working on SCADA systems in solar PV or renewable energy projects.Hands-on experience in PPC programming and commissioning (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, DEIF, or other platforms).Proficient in PLC and HMI development (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider EcoStruxure, Codesys).Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP / IP, IEC -5-, DNP3, or OPC UA.Strong understanding of grid-tied systems, power plant operational logic, and regulatory requirements.Able to read and interpret system-level schematics and control architecture.Willingness to travel to sites for system integration and commissioning.Preferred Attributes : Experience with grid connection processes and utility coordination (e.g., with Eskom).Familiarity with renewable energy, battery storage (BESS) or hybrid energy is an advantage.Sound knowledge of cybersecurity principles in SCADA environments.Detail-oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills.Enthusiastic about clean energy and emerging automation technologiespetitive salary and performance incentivesMedical aid and retirement contributionsOpportunities to work on utility-scale renewable energy projectsCareer development and mentorshipDynamic, innovative team cultureApply NowInterested candidates can submit their CV and a cover letter outlining relevant experience by email to :
