NOC Engineer (Stellenbosch based – Hybrid)
The NOC Engineer maintains the network and responds to issues across the National Network.
The successful candidate will analyze problems, perform troubleshooting, and incident response, tracking problems through to resolution. This is a hybrid position – the candidate will spend 3 days a week in the Stellenbosch Office and must reside nearby. A valid Driver's License and own transport are required.
Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of Monitoring Systems reporting on IP Core and ISP Services performance.
- Handle faults and escalations on the IP Core and Transmission network, liaising with NOC engineers and escalating issues as needed.
- Provision IP assignments, configure Core and Transmission Networks.
- Implement and report on scheduled changes, escalating failed changes to IP Core Engineers.
- Maintain WIKI and technical documentation of processes and procedures.
- Develop knowledge in networking and systems related to monitoring and provisioning of IP Core and Transmission networks.
- Assess and prioritize faults for response or escalation.
- Commission Transmission nodes and fiber links as the network expands.
- Monitor and support the IP Core, managing capacity and route optimization.
- Assist with WISP integration onto the centralized IP Core and manage the national transmission network based on SR-MPLS.
- Optimize route and traffic flows, supporting WISP MPLS deployments.
- Ensure maximum service availability and performance of systems and services.
- Provide transmission and IPT services over transmission and IP Core Networks.
- Support IP Core Engineers and develop a broad understanding of systems and networks.
- Log, follow up, and escalate outages to internal teams or service providers as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric and tertiary qualifications.
- Networking certifications (e.g., Juniper, Cisco, or related).
- Minimum 3 years ISP/SP/WISP experience.
- Proficiency with Mikrotik routers & switches, Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP, ISIS), and L2 switching.
- Experience with Juniper equipment is advantageous.
- Proficiency in IP address planning (IPv4 & IPv6).
- Strong communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
- Own transport is essential for shift work in a 24/7 environment.
