The incumbent will be appointed on a permanent basis.

The position is based at the Legal Aid SA National Office in Braamfontein.

KEY OUTPUTS
  1. Perform litigious and non-litigious functions on behalf of Legal Aid SA within specified authority parameters and mandates.
  2. Conduct litigation regarding summonses/motion applications against Legal Aid SA.
  3. Handle litigation related to the issuance of summonses and launching applications on behalf of Legal Aid SA.
  4. Assist the National Operations Department in preparing court reports under section 22 of the Legal Aid South Africa Act.
  5. Manage litigation involving Legal Aid SA as a party, including matters handled by insurers and the Human Resources Department, especially labour litigation.
  6. Draft, negotiate, and vet contracts within authority parameters to secure optimal contractual arrangements.
  7. Provide legal advice on contractual options, risks, legal implications, and litigious matters.
  8. Assist in formulating and amending policies and procedures.
  9. Contribute to management information system reports.
  10. Maintain records in the administration system of the Corporate Legal Section.
  11. Support the Corporate Legal Manager in managerial responsibilities.
  12. Supervise and coach Candidate Attorneys.
PERSONNEL (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ATTRIBUTES) REQUIRED
  • A relevant tertiary legal qualification, e.g., LLB.
  • Admitted as an attorney post-qualification.
  • At least five years of post-admission experience in a corporate legal and/or civil litigation environment.
  • Active appearance experience in the High Court or Magistrate's Court for at least two years prior to the advertisement.
  • Letter of good standing with the LPC.
  • Right of appearance in the High Court as of the advertisement date.
  • Minimum of three years in drafting commercial contracts, legal opinions, and research.
  • Valid driver's license.
