Introduction
The Night Shift Operations Manager provides robust support to the Branch Manager and supervises and organizes logistics operations throughout the night shift.
This role is crucial to ensuring smooth and effective logistics operations, meeting customer expectations, and maintaining high standards of productivity, safety, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure daily allocations are sent to the control room to monitor vehicles on local and outlying deliveries.
- Ensure all loaded vehicles are utilized according to guidelines and dispatched on time as planned the day before.
- Follow up on linehaul arrival times and report delays to management and control.
- Analyze and resolve daily Floor Reports.
- Plan daily headcounts based on operational volumes.
- Conduct regular floor walks with supervisors/checkers to ensure housekeeping standards.
- Communicate with clients regarding delivery queries and inquiries.
- Monitor booking dates and delivery schedules for clients and express shipments.
- Coordinate the handover process between day and night shift teams.
- Monitor delivery volumes, collections, and ETA's, and communicate with stores on delays.
- Review Floor Reports for aging stock and enforce FIFO.
- Report and investigate discrepancies such as shortages and damages.
- Take staff statements regarding incidents.
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
- Monitor compliance of supervisors to meet delivery deadlines.
- Maintain high standards of service delivery (OTIF).
- Manage company assets and investigate branch claims.
- Ensure discipline, housekeeping, and stock management are upheld.
- Plan linehauls and space allocations daily.
- Update staff on new clients and requirements.
- Report issues to management and facilitate staff development.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance and report problems immediately.
- Submit reports punctually.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric; a degree or diploma in logistics or a related field is beneficial.
- 3-5 years of experience in logistics management.
- Strong reporting and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Excel.
- Knowledge of vehicle tracking, fleet management, and route planning.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good people management skills.
- Valid driver's license and own transport are essential.
