Introduction

Applications are hereby invited for the following position based in Butterworth Campus. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) introduced the ‘New Generation of Academics Programme’ (nGAP) that is aimed at supporting the identification and nurturing of young academics by Universities. We are currently at Phase 10 of recruitment of incumbents. Universities are doing this by recruiting young and aspiring academics holders of Master’s degrees and the successful applicants will be required to register for and complete PhD within the first six years of their employment. During the six-year period the successful applicant will be supported in the development of their research and teaching expertise by means of the nGAP programme.

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT

nGAP LECTURER: PROJECT MANAGEMENT (P-08) REFERENCE NO: WSU-BTW2025/009

The nGAP Lecturer will be responsible for registering and completing a PhD study within the prescribed period and also perform teaching and mentoring of students’ responsibilities. The incumbent reports to the HOD in respect of the key performance areas listed hereunder.

Key Performance Areas:

  • The successful applicant MUST be committed to register for a higher degree in Doctoral studies in relevant lecturing discipline and produce evidence of successful registration within or before the expiry of the first 6 months from date of appointment.
  • Lecturing Project Management, or Business Management, or Management Modules.
  • Perform academic, administrative duties related to teaching and learning.
  • Actively contribute to the generation of research outputs such as publications in DHET- accredited journals and conference papers.
  • Promote and participate in community engagement.
  • Undertake any other departmental duties as may be required by HoD.
  • Liaise with academic and non-academic units and external parties in a responsible manner.
  • Needs to abide by the rules of the nGAP Standard Operating Procedures.
Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Possess applied Practical and Professional Content knowledge in the field of Project Management.
  • Ability to work with the lecturers in the department and in the faculty.
  • Be able to maintain professional relations between lecturers and students.
  • Good end-user computer skills and knowledge of technology-assisted teaching
  • Sound interpersonal relationship.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Good Communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-driven and lifelong learner
  • Excellent preparation and organizational skills
  • Excellent presentation skills


Minimum Requirements
  • A Master of Commerce qualification with evidence of a component of Project Management within the Masters qualification, which must have been passed with an average mark of 70% or above.
  • Must possess undergraduate courses in Management/ Business Management with evidence of majoring in Project Management up to level three.
  • Applicants must be 40 years or younger.
  • A minimum of two years lecturing experience or industry experience is preferred.
