News Content Generation :

  • Sourcing and generating news content for broadcast.
  • Verifying facts and ensuring all stories adhere to editorial standards.
  • Extracting unique angles and exclusive content to strengthen newsroom output.
  • Keeping abreast of socio-political developments at all levels.
  • Researching and generating story ideas from various sources, including personal contacts, news agencies, press conferences, and law enforcement.
  • Pitching story ideas to the editor.
  • Collating evidence and background information to support news pieces.
  • Attending diary meetings.

Breaking News & Reporting :

  • Monitoring news agencies for breaking news and ensuring swift, accurate broadcasting of such.
  • Standing in for news anchors when required.
  • Conducting live and pre-recorded interviews.
  • Writing, packaging, and presenting news content on-air for both pre-recorded and live broadcasts.
  • Writing and packaging scripts.
  • Ensuring high broadcast standards.

Interviewing & Public Relations :

  • Identifying and briefing potential interviewees, preparing questions, and conducting interviews.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with sources to enhance news coverage.
  • Representing the station professionally in all interactions.

Editorial Standards & Compliance :

  • Adhering to internal editorial policies and ethical journalism guidelines.
  • Adhering to internal editorial policies and social media guidelines.
  • Ensuring exclusive pieces and voicers align with the station’s editorial direction.
  • Exercising editorial judgment to determine the best angle for stories.

Field Reporting & Travel :

  • Conducting field reporting, including traveling when necessary to cover stories.
  • Ensure comprehensive coverage of local, national, and international news developments.
