Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to the following:

Market Research

  • Conduct business research of the marketplace, with a view to evolving the products offering to meet consumer trends.
  • Understand competitive marketplace for assigned categories and document competitive cross references.
  • Benchmarking panel and competitor analysis.
  • Development of relevant NPD strategies and concepts to drive sales and market share.

Product Development/Project Management :

  • Product specification generation of dry foods in line with customer / business requirements.
  • Monitoring, tracking, organizing and evaluation of all approved proposed new product samples and collect costs.
  • Organise nutritional analysis / shelf-life testing of products as required.
  • Approve dry foods artwork, packaging and legal requirements for new products.
  • Keeping up to date on all NPD process document requirements, ensure all steps of the NPD process are completed correctly and within the specified critical path.
  • Organisation and preparation of new product concept samples to be sent to customers and following the product launch deadline.
  • Creative input to facilitate client specific ideas.
  • Presenting information regarding factory capabilities to achieve effective new product development to internal and external customers.
  • Constantly improving on operational efficiencies waste reduction and maximising output.

Cross-functional Collaboration :

  • Co-ordinate and manage trials with the production and quality teams.
  • Actively involved with continuous improvement of current products, packaging and equipment.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure products meet quality standards, regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

Post-Launch Evaluation:

  • Analyse product performance after launch to identify areas for improvement.

Product Life Cycle:

  • Maintain product portfolio and manage product lifecycle.

Skills Requirements:

  • BSc Food Technology/ Food Science / Nutritional Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-year food industry experience within a similar discipline.
  • Experience with the requirements of online specification retailer systems.
  • Knowledge of fresh meat, dry food and pet food is a significant advantage.
  • Proven experience in product development and project management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Adaptability and a passion for staying ahead in a dynamic industry.
