Job summary

NTT DATA in South Africa is seeking a Network Operations and Support professional to monitor network performance, assist with installation and configuration of routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls, and support LAN/WAN environments.

You will participate in incident and problem management, security and compliance, and project support, while staying current with networking technologies and pursuing relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Education in IT/computer science or related technical discipline is required.
• Certifications such as Huawei CCNA, Fortinet NSE Associate, CompTIA Network+ and Azure Fundamentals are advantageous.
• Strong networking fundamentals and knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing and switching, and network monitoring tools are expected.

• Monitor network performance and availability using management tools.
• Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices (routers, switches, WLANs, firewalls).
• Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate complex incidents to senior engineers.
• Support LAN/WAN, security controls, and incident/problem management processes.
• Document incidents, resolutions, and network diagrams.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Huawei Network Operations & Support

• Monitor network performance and availability using network management tools.
• Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
• Perform basic network troubleshooting and resolve connectivity issues.
• Escalate complex network incidents to senior engineers when required.
• Support Local Area Networks (LAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN).

Incident and Problem Management

• Respond to network-related incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
• Investigate root causes of recurring network issues.
• Participate in troubleshooting data, and wireless networking problems.
• Document incidents, resolutions, and troubleshooting procedures.

Network Maintenance

• Assist with software upgrades, patching, and firmware updates for network devices.
• Perform routine health checks and preventative maintenance activities.
• Support network backup and recovery processes.
• Maintain accurate network diagrams and documentation.

Security and Compliance

• Assist in implementing network security controls and standards.
• Monitor firewall logs, network alerts, and security events.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and procedures.
• Support vulnerability assessments and remediation activities.

Project Support

• Assist with network deployment projects and infrastructure upgrades.
• Participate in testing and validating new network solutions.
• Support equipment installations and office/site network rollouts.
• Collaborate with other IT teams including server, cloud, desktop, and cybersecurity teams.

Continuous Learning

• Stay current with networking technologies and industry best practices.
• Participate in training, certification programs, and technical workshops.
• Develop knowledge of enterprise networking, cloud networking, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
