Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in Telecommunications networking, focusing on MPLS/DWDM/GPON networks.
  • CCNP/HCIP/JNCIP certifications are required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or National Diploma.
  • ITIL Foundation certification for IT service management.
  • Valid EB driver's license with reliable transport; after-hours work required.
  • Experience in customer-facing technical support and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely technical support via phone, email, and ticketing systems.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior engineers or internal teams.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot MPLS, DWDM, and GPON networks to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor network performance and identify potential issues to prevent service degradation.

About the role

We are looking for a Network Engineer with strong GPON/FTTH experience to join our Carrier Solutions team.

This role is responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting fibre and carrier-grade network services, performing network implementations and upgrades, and ensuring high service availability for enterprise and retail customers.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced network operations environment, including after-hours support.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Network Operations

  • Provide timely and effective technical support via phone, email, and ticketing systems.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex fibre and carrier network issues.

Network Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network-related problems, including but not limited to MPLS, DWDM, and GPON networks, ensuring prompt resolution to minimize downtime and service disruptions.

Network Monitoring

  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify potential issues or anomalies, taking appropriate actions to prevent service degradation.

Escalation Management

  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers or relevant internal teams as necessary, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication with customers.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, technical issues, and resolutions, contributing to knowledge base and documentation for future reference.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including network operations, engineering, and product management to address customer needs and improve service quality.

Training

  • Provide training and technical guidance to junior support staff or customers, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.
  • Take on vendor certifications according to the business requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends related to telecommunications networking, actively participating in skill enhancement and process improvement initiatives.
Education, Experience and Skills:
  • National Senior Certificate
  • Relevant networking certifications required:
    • CCNP, HCIP, JNCIP
    • National Diploma or bachelor's degree in engineering
    • ITIL Foundation: Certification in IT service management, covering processes and best practices, including those related to network infrastructure management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Telecommunications networking, with a focus on MPLS, DWDM, and/or GPON networks.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management systems.
  • Hands-on experience with MPLS or DWDM equipment from leading vendors.
  • Hands-on experience with GPON networks, including OLT/ONT configuration and management.
  • Experience in a customer-facing technical support role.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching technologies.
  • Proficiency in network troubleshooting methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A Valid code EB or equivalent driver's license and 100% reliable transport
  • Required to work afterhours and standby.
