Job Overview

  • The Network Engineer will support the delivery, rollout, and maintenance of critical infrastructure services including VoIP, broadband, wireless, and core network infrastructure. The role involves hands-on implementation, configuration, and technical support across a variety of platforms and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Participate in VoIP rollouts, infrastructure refresh projects, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support wireless (Wi-Fi) initiatives and ensure consistent connectivity across supported sites.
  • Provide ongoing site infrastructure support and technical maintenance.

Network Infrastructure Services

  • Identify and troubleshoot network issues efficiently.
  • Configure and support Cisco or Huawei network devices (switches, routers, wireless access points).
  • Use virtualisation technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Support Microsoft server environments (base OS, DHCP, patching).
  • Administer basic network security configurations and platforms.
  • Provide support for Audio-Visual (VC) technologies including setup and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in deployment of secure wireless network environments.
  • Conduct research into network solutions and enhancements.

VoIP Services

  • Install, configure, and support VoIP technologies.
  • Use tools such as Cisco ISE, NCE, and Call Manager.
  • Support unified communication and collaboration platforms.
  • Provide technical support for VoIP troubleshooting and deployment.

WAN (Broadband) Services

  • Assist with broadband infrastructure assessments and site migrations under provincial initiatives.
  • Support deployment of complete network layers (Layer 1–3) according to design specifications.

Application Rollouts and Operational Support

  • Conduct infrastructure installations and upgrades at new or existing WCG sites.
  • Provide day-to-day technical troubleshooting and support.
  • Research and implement network solutions to improve service delivery.

RequirementsMinimum Requirements

Certifications (must be valid at time of tender closure):

  • Cisco Certification: Minimum CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or higher.
  • Huawei Certification: Minimum HCIA (Huawei Certified ICT Associate) or higher.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in a Network Engineer or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting infrastructure, Wi-Fi, and VoIP projects.

Desirable Skills

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with public sector ICT environments is advantageous.
  • Ability to multitask and work on-site as required.
