Nedbank is inviting applications from suitably qualified South African graduates for its Internal Audit – Data and AI Enablement Graduate opportunity based in Sandton, Johannesburg.

About the Graduate Opportunity

The Internal Audit – Data and AI Enablement Graduate position falls within Nedbank’s Governance and Compliance job family and the Internal Audit career stream.

The programme focuses on using technology and data to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of internal auditing activities.

Successful candidates will support audit teams by analysing information, identifying potential risks, developing visual reports and contributing to technology-enabled solutions.

Graduates will also gain exposure to modern technology platforms, including Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI capabilities, as well as approved automation and artificial intelligence tools used within Nedbank.

The experience is intended to provide a foundation for future careers in data analytics, data science, AI enablement, intelligent automation and related digital disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will work with experienced professionals and contribute to several data and technology-related activities within Group Internal Audit.

Their responsibilities will include:

1. Data Analytics and Audit Support

Graduates will assist with delivering audits through data analytics, automation, visualisation and artificial intelligence solutions. They will help improve digital assurance and support audit teams in identifying relevant information.

2. Data Collection and Analysis

Participants will assist with sourcing, preparing, analysing and interpreting data to identify trends, anomalies, risks and useful business insights.

3. Dashboard and Report Development

The role will involve developing dashboards, reports and data stories that communicate analytical findings clearly to audit teams and other stakeholders.

4. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Graduates will contribute to developing analytical models, machine-learning solutions and generative AI applications under appropriate supervision.

5. AI-Enabled Solutions

Participants may gain practical exposure to prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and AI agents as part of the organisation’s technology initiatives.

6. Data Governance and Responsible AI

The successful candidates will be expected to follow data governance, information security, model risk management and responsible AI principles throughout the development and implementation of solutions.

7. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

Graduates will work with audit professionals, data owners, technology specialists and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop practical solutions.

8. Continuous Learning and Innovation

Participants will take part in structured learning, mentoring, knowledge-sharing and professional development activities while identifying opportunities to improve audit processes through technology.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for the Nedbank Internal Audit – Data and AI Enablement Graduate opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Must be a South African citizen.
Must have completed an NQF Level 7 qualification or higher.
Must meet Nedbank’s applicable graduate programme eligibility requirements.
Must not currently be registered on another graduate programme.
No previous work experience is required.

The advertised minimum qualification category includes Advanced Diplomas and National First Degrees.

Candidates with relevant certifications, academic coursework or practical projects in data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud platforms or software development will have an advantage.

Exposure gained through university projects, internships, vacation work, hackathons and personal technology projects may also strengthen an application.

Nedbank is looking for graduates who have an interest in technology and the ability to understand and analyse information.
