Job summary

Lotus HR and Recruitment invites applications for a senior fleet and maintenance management role in South Africa. The successful candidate will oversee production machinery, fleet vehicles and plant equipment across multiple sites, ensuring cost efficiency and compliant maintenance schedules.

Required is a mechanical engineering qualification or diesel trade test with at least 10 years of asset-management experience, including Hazchem and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering qualification or trade test in Diesel mechanics.
• Minimum of 10 years experience in managing company assets such as production machinery, fleet vehicles and plant/construction equipment.
• Experience with spraying/road surfacing or road construction equipment preferred.
• Proven expertise in optimizing specialised fleet and transportation vehicles.
• Strong background in managing a diverse multi-plant team, controlling costs, and maintaining maintenance schedules.
• Experience in fully managing a fleet with Hazchem compliance, maintenance, insurances and environmental legislation.
• Track record in people management, development, and maintaining staffing/performance records.
• Knowledge of HSE, Quality, Budget Management and departmental reporting.
• Must have valid driver's licence, own car, and clear criminal and credit record.

Responsibilities

• Optimize specialised fleet and transportation vehicles to drive efficiency.
• Manage a diverse team across multiple plants ensuring cost control and timely maintenance schedules.
• Fully manage fleet obligations including Hazchem compliance, insurance and environmental regulations.
• Provide technical support to teams and maintain staffing and performance records.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of HSE, quality, budgeting and reporting requirements.

Job description

KEY REQUIREMENTS TO MEET FOR CONSIDERATION:

• You will have completed a Mechanical Engineering qualification or trade test in Diesel mechanics, coupled with a minimum of 10 years experience in managing company assets such as production machinery, fleet vehicles and plant/construction equipment, with preference to spraying and road surfacing or road construction equipment.
• You will have proven expertise in ensuring the full and effective optimization of specialised fleet vehicles and transportation vehicles.
• You will have a strong background in managing a diverse team, based at multiple plants, to ensure costs are kept at a reasonable level, ensure effective maintenance schedules and drive improvements and modifications
• You will have experience in fully managing a fleet, to include compliance in respect to Hazchem legislation, maintenance, insurances and environmental legislation in terms of waste, spillages and storage.
• You will have a solid track record in terms of people management and development, providing technical support to the teams and maintain meticulous staffing and performance records.
• A sound understanding of HSE, Quality, Budget Management and Departmental reporting is essential
• You must have a valid driver's licence, own car and a clear criminal and credit record
