National Procurement Manager – Kya Sands, Johannesburg.

A fast-paced national courier business is seeking an experienced and strategic National Procurement Manager to establish and lead the procurement function.

This newly created role presents an opportunity to design and implement procurement frameworks that will support a large logistics and distribution network across South Africa. With thousands of parcels moving daily through regional warehouses, depots, kiosks, parcel lockers, and a nationwide fleet, this position is central to ensuring cost-effective, timely, and compliant sourcing of goods and services.

The role requires close collaboration with operations, logistics, finance, and fleet teams, while managing a Procurement Manager and Procurement Administrator to deliver on national procurement needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field
  • CIPS or equivalent professional certification
  • 5–10 years of procurement experience within courier, logistics, transport, warehousing-intensive, or FMCG industries
  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiation, and delivering cost savings
  • Strong understanding of facilities, fleet, operational, and infrastructure-related procurement across multiple categories (services, fleet, technology, packaging, consumables)
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing or leading procurement processes and systems
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/procurement systems (SAP)
  • Knowledge of South African procurement laws, BBBEE, and supply chain compliance
  • Experience in staff management or mentoring
  • Knowledge of parcel locker and kiosk technologies and sourcing
  • Experience managing procurement nationally across multiple branches/sites
  • Exposure to sustainability or green procurement initiatives

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish a centralised procurement function and strategy aligned with business growth and operational needs
  • Lead sourcing, contracting, and supplier management across key spend categories, including:
    • Warehouse equipment and consumables
    • Fleet and vehicle procurement (purchase, leasing, maintenance)
    • Fuel, tyres, spares, and vehicle consumables
    • Locker and kiosk infrastructure
    • IT and communication systems
    • Courier uniforms and packaging materials
    • Facilities, utilities, and outsourced services (cleaning, security, etc.)
  • Build and manage a consolidated national vendor network to support efficient operations across regions
  • Negotiate supplier contracts, service level agreements, pricing, and terms, focusing on cost savings, quality, and risk reduction
  • Implement supplier performance monitoring and continuous improvement processes
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and Fleet teams to ensure procurement requirements are met on time
  • Oversee procurement processes, cost controls, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legal standards, and industry requirements
  • Oversee and optimise inventory management within operations, stationery, and uniform departments
  • Plan and execute procurement strategies to support business expansion and new location rollouts
  • Manage procurement budgets, cost forecasting, and spend analysis
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the junior procurement team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
