Our client, a leading material handling business is seeking to employ a National Operations Manager to join their leadership team on operational matters, service delivery and people management. The successful candidate will work closely with the Divisional General Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Overseeing the operational, financial, and legal affairs of an operational division/branch.
Asset management and maintenance of all personnel and related functions.
Overall administration of the division, providing effective leadership to ensure the staff functions as an effective and committed team in line with company vision, mission, goals, and values, while maintaining a productive, cost-effective, safe, and legal workplace.
Ensure adequate financial internal & corporate governance controls are in place.
Prepare all budgets and financial forecasts.
Critical examination of information for accuracy.
Plan for the division/branch’s financial future, needs, profitability, etc.
Ensure that sales and GP targets are met, stock availability is as per set targets, and parts obsolescence is controlled.
Manage work in progress and service scheduling in line with company policy.
Manage division debtors book.
Ensure accurate and timely verification of invoices (also following up on outstanding invoices).
Ensure OHSACT, ASEC, and ISO requirements are met on own and customer premises and that all regulations are adhered to.
Operations:
Ensure efficient and effective organisation of the division operations to maximise profitability sustainably.
Ensure adequate strategic planning (short and long term) and action plans are developed, evaluated, and revisited on an ongoing basis.
Implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures in line with company objectives, vision, goals, values, and key principles.
Human Resources:
Overall responsibility to ensure staff in all departments are managed in line with company personnel policies and procedures.
Conduct bi-annual performance appraisals per staff member and monthly scorecard discussions with staff.
Grow the division in line with company requirements.
Develop and implement operational innovation.
Must have qualifications:
Relevant business management tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6).
Minimum of 5+ years work experience as an Operations Manager within a material handling, construction, or automotive industry.
Relevant experience in a Technical Service environment.
Code 8 driver's license.
Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
Strong financial/numerical acumen.
Skilled and knowledgeable in financial and commercial matters, focusing on costs, profits, markets, new business opportunities, and activities which will bring the largest return.
Ability to motivate and empower individuals and teams to reach organizational goals.
Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labour relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning.
Sound knowledge of developing new business opportunities.
