Legal Aid South Africa is seeking an Attorney to perform critical litigation functions and provide legal advice on a permanent basis. The incumbent will be appointed on a permanent basis. The position is based in Braamfontein.

KEY OUTPUTS
  1. Perform litigious and non-litigious functions within specified authority parameters and mandate.
  2. Conduct litigation regarding summonses/motion applications against Legal Aid SA.
  3. Handle litigation related to issuing summonses and launching applications on behalf of Legal Aid SA.
  4. Manage arbitration matters on behalf of Legal Aid SA and file reports to court as per Section 3B of the Legal Aid SA Act.
  5. Conduct litigation in all matters involving Legal Aid SA, including those handled by insurers and Human Resources, especially Labour Litigation.
  6. Draft, negotiate, and vet contracts to ensure favorable arrangements for Legal Aid SA.
  7. Provide legal advice to the Board on contractual options, risks, legal implications, and litigation matters.
  8. Assist the Corporate Legal Manager in formulating and amending policies and procedures.
  9. Contribute to Management Information System reports.
  10. Maintain proper record-keeping and retrieval in the administration system of the Corporate Legal Section.
MANAGERIAL AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and coach Candidate Attorneys.

PERSONNEL (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES) REQUIRED
  • A relevant tertiary legal qualification, e.g., LLB.
  • Admitted as an Attorney after completing a recognized legal qualification.
  • At least five years of post-admission experience in a corporate legal and/or civil litigation environment.
  • Active appearance experience in the High Court or Magistrate's Court for at least two years prior to the advertisement date.
  • Valid driver's license.

Salary: R ,.00 all-inclusive package per annum.
