Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the production of daily news that meets all quality requirements.
- Keep abreast of local, provincial and national news and liaise with regions on digital news.
- Monitor the progress of articles and reports throughout the news cycle.
- Coordinate the gathering of news daily to reach set targets.
- Coordinate the assignments, evaluation and publication of breaking news.
- Edit online news articles once submitted by reporters.
- Identify and create story ideas and themes on the general news front.
- Assist regions to identify strong follow-up angles.
- Ensure a comprehensive news diary is kept daily from reporters.
- Use web analytics tools to analyse site traffic and user demographics.
Educational Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism or media studies.
Experience Requirements
- 5 to 7 years editorial experience in an established newsroom.
- Newsroom management experience.
- Experience in an online news as well as print environment.
- Thorough working knowledge of news production, ethics and the media environment.
