Job description

Job Purpose :

Responsible for the smooth operation and oversight of the Customs Department within the company, ensuring compliance with Codes of Good Practice and maintaining Customs Accreditation.

Job Functions - Johannesburg Team :

  1. Ensure timely and accurate Customs Clearances for both Import and Export to avoid penalties from Customs and third-party suppliers.
  2. Assist and train junior staff in clearing formalities.
  3. Establish procedures for operational and Customs Affairs staff to improve workflow.
  4. Provide guidance on correct tariff classifications.
  5. Address client and network queries related to customs.
  6. Follow up on all customs refund applications to completion.
  7. Ensure all RIT and Road Bond Acquittals are processed.
  8. Organize all statutory Customs-related matters.
  9. Assist with permit applications, including customs codes and ITAC permits.
  10. Ensure junior staff acquire comprehensive knowledge of Customs Tariffs and Procedures.
  11. Participate in regular meetings with SARS to stay updated on industry changes and provide feedback.
  12. Review current client shipments for correct tariff application.
  13. Maintain up-to-date Warehouse Bond Books weekly.
  14. Perform any other reasonable delegated tasks as assigned by the manager.

Job Functions - Coastal Team :

  1. Develop procedures for operational and Customs Affairs staff across all customs branches to streamline processes.
  2. Coordinate and distribute statutory Customs matters on a national level.
  3. Perform other reasonable tasks as delegated by the Reporting Manager.
  4. Enforce SARS compliance within the region.
  5. Ensure all branches operate within SARS requirements.
  6. Implement and roll out all customs-related internal procedures across the national teams.
  7. Conduct monthly reviews with National Customs Managers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Matric
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Thorough knowledge of customs procedures, laws, governmental requirements, and Jacobsonss Tariff
  • Proven management experience
