Job description

Minimum Job Requirements :

  1. Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  2. Certification in Credit Management strong preference.
  3. Banking industry experience essential.
  4. Minimum 5 years experience in Credit Management or Analysis within retail or FMCG.
  5. Minimum 5 years experience in a Management role overseeing national or large-scale credit operations.

Skills Requirements :

  1. Legislation (FIC, Insolvency Law, Companies Act, National Credit Act).
  2. Credit and financial analysis software.
  3. Commercial and business acumen.
  4. Team player who can function independently.
  5. Be able to work effectively under pressure.
  6. Build strategic and collaborative working relationships.

Key Performance Areas :

Report to the National Finance Executive :

Credit Risk Management :

  1. Monitor and manage the overall credit risk exposure to acceptable levels.
  2. Design, implement and maintain a Credit Committee Charter and Terms of Reference for Retailer Loans.
  3. Develop and implement credit management policies and procedures.
  4. Create credit scoring models to predict risks.

Credit Evaluation :

  1. Lead the conducting of thorough credit assessments for new and existing customers.
  2. Determine creditworthiness (including financial stability), approve recommended credit limits, credit extensions, required security, legal action, perfection requests, bad debts write offs, store feasibilities, etc.
  3. Lead the setting of appropriate credit limits and terms based on analysis and company policies.

Collections and Receivables Management :

  1. Implement effective collection strategies and follow up on overdue accounts.
  2. Provide direction on the negotiation of payment plans.
  3. Provide direction with regards to addressing any credit related disputes or concerns.
  4. Assist with finding mutually beneficial resolutions to maintain customer satisfaction.
  5. Closely monitor overdue percentages, economic factors, debtors days and customer payment patterns.

Compliance :

  1. Ensure compliance with the FIC Act, National Credit Act / Regulations, and ensure related statutory submissions are attended to regularly and timeously.
  2. Ensure appropriate document management systems are in place to support the FIC Act requirements.

Reporting & Administration :

  1. Provide insights and recommendations to Senior Management for decision-making on credit management strategies.
  2. Attend and administer the monthly Credit Committee meeting and drive outcomes as well as related projects.
  3. Implement reporting functionality and capability that allows for effective credit management oversight by relevant stakeholders, including guidance on dispute resolutions.

Customer Relationship Management :

  1. Provide strategic and operational support or guidance to the Regional or BU Credit Managers.
  2. Manage relationships with credit insurance providers and ensure adequate coverage for high-risk accounts and groups.
