Qualifications

Job description

Job Title: Junior Investment Officer - Financial Institutions & Corporates

What will be your role?
  1. Origination of new business
  2. Organize prospection missions within the region in coordination with the Paris Head Office
  3. Conduct market mapping to support the origination effort
  4. Develop creative and innovative ways to originate new projects in a competitive environment
  5. Perform sectorial analysis in the countries covered (regulatory framework, key actors, opportunities, challenges…)
  6. Monitoring of political, economic and financial environment in the relevant countries
  7. Project analysis
  8. Assist in drafting screening notes seeking clearance-in-principle for the identified projects
  9. Conduct in-depth and extensive analysis of the financial statements and projections
  10. Assess the market, legal, environmental and social risks
  11. Assess the alignment of the proposed transaction with Proparco's mandate
  12. Review governance structures and assess management quality
  13. Perform know your customer and anti-money laundering checks
  14. Conduct equity valuation (DCF, DDM, comparables, etc.)
  15. Support to Financial Institutions and Corporates
  16. Support the due diligence process performed by the Head Office team
  17. Portfolio monitoring
  18. Perform annual risk review of the regional portfolio
  19. Follow-up on clients in coordination with the technical teams at head office
  20. Others
  21. Contribution to the regional strategy
  22. Participation in relevant conferences in the region
  23. Support other regional teams depending on the deal flow
  24. Preparation and participation in events: conferences, workshops, presentations

  • Willingness to be a member of a small and multicultural team (9 people at Proparco in Johannesburg, 2 in Antananarivo), and to work in close coordination with Paris head office
  • Pro-active, logical reasoning, problem solving, analytical skills and detail-oriented
  • Willingness to work in multicultural environment
Qualifications & experience
  • A relevant Master's degree from a leading university or business school in Finance, Accountancy, Economics, Business Management or CA (SA) or CFA
  • Proven fluency in English (written and oral)
  • Knowledge of French would be a plus (not a must have)
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in banking, consulting, or the investment industry in South Africa or / and in Africa
  • Transaction experience in Africa
  • Prior international experience would be a plus
  • A valid working permit to work in South Africa
Team and Location

Location: Johannesburg (Bryanston)

The position involves travelling in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean countries as required to visit existing or prospective clients, and in the head office in Paris.

Reports to: Head of Proparco in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean
