Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Research Scientist to join its nanotechnology R&D team in Soweto. You will design and execute experiments, synthesize and characterize nanomaterials, and contribute to cutting-edge applications in sensors, energy storage, and biomedicine.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Nanotechnology or a related field, possesses hands-on experience with TEM, SEM, AFM, XRD, and spectroscopy, and demonstrates strong data analysis and scientific communication skills.

Qualifications

• PhD in Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
• Proven experience in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization techniques (e.g., TEM, SEM, AFM, XRD, spectroscopy).
• Strong understanding of the principles governing the behavior of materials at the nanoscale.
• Demonstrated ability to design and execute complex research projects and troubleshoot experimental issues.
• Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of scientific dissemination.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize and fabricate various types of nanomaterials using advanced techniques.
• Characterize the physical, chemical, and electronic properties of synthesized nanomaterials using a range of analytical tools.
• Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of nanomaterials in specific applications (e.g., sensors, energy storage, biomedical).
• Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and interpret results to guide further research.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers and other scientists, to integrate nanomaterial solutions into new products.
• Document research findings, prepare technical reports, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications.
